🚀 [Resources] Our new 3D Character Course teaser, Ian Hubert's new "Dynamo Dream" episode and more…

Hey Reader,

Zach here,

First, with some exciting news: We’re getting close to releasing a new CG Boost course, and I’m sharing a teaser of it today!

Besides this, there is a new 3D challenge by Pixar, Creative Shrimp’s new Blender/DaVinci Resolve course (free), and another impressive episode of "Dynamo Dream" from Ian Hubert.

Let’s dive in.

Teaser for our upcoming 3D Character Course

We’re preparing to release our new Blender course soon. 🥳

It is a complete 3D character creation course by Jim Morren (if you follow our YouTube channel, you should know Jim already). He is an experienced 3D character artist and a great teacher (confirmed by our course beta-testers).

We hope the teaser will get you as excited and looking forward to the launch as we are.

Pixar’s RenderMan "Sci-Tech" Art Challenge

Pixar has just announced their new 3D art challenge "Sci-Tech".

If you miss our 3D challenges (we've put them on hold for the time being) and would love to test your artistic skills to explore new ideas, this is a perfect opportunity.

There are almost 3 months to complete a still image render with the topic "Compute".

The challenging part is that it has to be rendered with RenderMan - Pixar’s rendering engine (the same one that was used to render "Toy Story", "Luca" or "Inside Out"). It is available for free (for non-commercial uses), works perfectly with Blender and the principled shader it uses is almost identical to Blender’s Principled BSDF, so it’s not that hard to get started with.

You can learn all the details about the challenge in this video, and on the challenge’s dedicated website:

Learn Blender and Resolve with Gleb Alexandrov

Our friends at Creative Shrimp (Gleb Alexandrov and Aidy Burrows) have just released a new course that can help you level up your image-making skills by harnessing the power of Blender and DaVinci Resolve combo.

Both programs are available for free (Resolve has a paid "Studio" version as well and is not open-source, though).

Gleb and Aidy are known for the quality of their courses and reasonable pricing. This time they made a bold move and decided to release the course as "pay-what-you-want". This means you can get the course for free, but I encourage you to show support to the generous Creative Shrimp team and be generous too.

New episode of Ian Hubert’s "Dynamo Dream"

If you’ve ever seen creations of Ian Hubert, you know that this new "Dynamo Dream" episode will be something stunning.

Ian uses Blender and his amazing filmmaking skills to bring a whole sci-fi universe from imagination to life.

I can't fully wrap my head around the story, but I love the insane rich and multilayered world-building, with lots of fun details that you can discover and enjoy by rewatching this multiple times.

I especially loved the funny wild bot-taxi ride scene, but I will not give you any spoilers. Enough talking, time to watch and be immersed in the "Dynamo Dream":

That’s it from me for today. Have a great week and till next time!
