Published over 1 year agoΒ β€’Β 1 min read

Hey Reader,

Zach here, with another round of useful and inspiring CG and Blender related resources.

How I created a Short Film in Blender (Breakdown)

In my new video I show you how I created the (really short) short film "Family Trip", fully created in Blender of course.

This is a breakdown video, where I show how the scene was assembled, how the terrain, the animated water, the vegetation and the flying birds were created. Also, I give a brief look at the car rig, the animation and the final steps to finish this short film. It was a ton of fun to put this video together, hope you will enjoy it! 😁

Btw. this animation is based on the workflows I teach in my recently updated Cubic Worlds course for Blender. You can currently get it with 20% discount till July 29th (23:59 CEST).

The Future of Hair Grooming in Blender

Blender 3.3 will have a new hair system for hair/fur grooming. It looks very fun and intuitive to use compared to what we had before.

Check out the video above, which gives you a good overview of how it works. Also, you can read this article to learn more.

VOLTA - Blender Short

The young artist William Landgren is constantly creating fantastic shorts made with Blender.

His latest creation "VOLTA" has such a high density of visual content in each frame, you can really see that he paid attention to every detail. I especially like the vibrating cloth simulation at the end, and the sound design is also top-notch.

This little song about Blender 2.7 stuck in my head for quite a while. "Earworm" warning! πŸ›πŸ‘‚

Live 3D Art Critique - City in the Sky Challenge

Last but not least, we recently hosted another fun livestream on YouTube, where we critiqued 20 submissions of our last City in the Sky 3D art challenge. The recording of the livestream is now available.

Check out the chapter marks on YouTube, to jump to specific sections of the video you are interested in.

That's it for this week, now enjoy your weekend and stay creative!

P.S. I will be on summer vacations with my family for the next two weeks. But don't worry, the CG Boost team is still there to answer your questions. 🏝️🌞

Hey Reader, Zach here, Today, we’re proud to finally launch our new Master Urban Environments course for Blender, taught by Cov Phillips. Dense urban cities can be so immersive and inspiring. You can wander around for hours and still find strange and interesting places, from tall shiny buildings down to dirty alleyways. But it can be quite overwhelming to attempt to do in 3D, with all the big variety of elements, from detailed buildings down to the trash on the street. Where do you even...

Hey Reader, Zach here, Our new Urban Environments course for Blender is opening its doors in just two days. Today I want to share what this course is all about. If you have ever tried to build an entire urban environment in 3D, you’ve probably realized it can be quite an overwhelming task, but such an exciting project. We found that it's hard to find a full course that teaches you to create exactly that, step-by-step. That is why we teamed up with Cov Phillips to create the Master Urban...

Hey Reader, Zach here, I'm very proud to share that today January 29th at 4:30pm CET we are premiering the "Robotic Wildlife" 3D Challenge montage video. As we were going through all the submissions and winners for the edit, we thought this could be even better! We wanted to include a look behind the scenes on how these intricate and detailed robot designs were made. So we gave the participants that made it into the final montage more time to create some behind the scenes' footage. And man,...
